HFG editor, Brooke Longfield, wraps up some of the top food and nutrition trends for 2018 and shares a sneak peek at what’s coming in 2019.
Low-HI – HI stands for human interference, so essentially choose foods that are minimally processed. For example, swap flavoured quick-cook oats for plain rolled oats; juice for fresh fruit and rice crackers for fresh vegie sticks.
Sustainability – Most of us will admit we could do more to reduce food waste. Before you hit the shops, take a moment to plan meals for the week and write a shopping list – and stick to it!
Hemp – We’re calling it…2019 will be the year of hemp. Legalised in November 2017, hemp ‘superfood’ products are popping up everywhere. We’ve spotted drinks, yoghurt, cereals and corn chips!
Grazing boards – From fruit and cheese platters to full-blown dessert stations, grazing boards are the new way to snack. We love the fact you can mix healthy ingredients like fresh fruit and nuts with special occasion treats like chocolate and decadent cheeses.
Edible beauty – There’s a whole new range of supplements and smoothie powders that promise healthy glowing skin from within. It’s a growing area, but we think you’re better off sticking to good old fashioned fruit and veg for a healthy glow!
