Q: "I was just wondering if there is any difference between table salt and cooking salt and can I use table salt in cooking?"

A: Milena Katz, Accredited Practising Dietitian and Nutritionist replies:
“Table salt is cooking salt. Table salt is usually refined, containing fine particles of sodium chloride. It also contains anti-caking agents that make it pour easily and stop it from clumping together. I would advise purchasing iodised salt to reduce iodine deficiency, which is common in Australia, and only use salt if absolutely necessary, as the adult daily requirement for salt is very small.”
