Omega-3s reduce heart attack risk
Long-chain omega-3s DHA and EPA play a vital role in reducing the incidence of heart attacks.
Consuming just 250mg of the long-chain omega-3s DHA and EPA each day appears to greatly reduce the risk of death from heart attack, according to scientists who reviewed the latest research at a New York symposium. This amount is beneficial for people who have never had a heart attack as well as for those who have. While an optimal dose is yet to be determined, the scientists recommend 250-500mg intake of DHA and EPA each day (or 1750-3500mg a week). This amount is easily achieved by including oily fish in your diet. For example, 50g of smoked salmon provides 4600mg of these omega-3s.
