Auckland University research has found the amount of antioxidants available in New Zealand teas is significantly higher than initially thought.

“One tea bag of green or black tea has the same amount of antioxidants as around two cups of fruit juice,” according to Dr Laurence Eyres, of Auckland University. The study also found the crucial factor in maximising the antioxidant content of your tea was the amount of time it had to brew. The Bell Tea Company’s Tea Master Matt Greenwood explains: “Realise the full potential of the antioxidants in your tea by following Bell’s ‘Great Tea Takes Three’ rule – brew your tea for at least three minutes, and up to five.”
