Squirrel: Everything you want in a food?

Free-range, low-fat and – for the British at least – low in food miles.

Just a few of the selling points for the grey squirrel which, according to a recent report in the Observer newspaper, is flying off the shelves of stores stocking it. With a diet of berries and nuts, squirrel meat has been likened to wild boar (whatever that tastes like!) and to a cross between duck and lamb. Not likely to appear in a store near you in NZ any time soon.
