New restrictions on advertising food to children

There are new voluntary rules for food advertising to children.

Broadcasters will use the Ministry of Health’s Food and Beverage Classification System, developed for schools, which classifies them as ‘everyday’, ‘sometimes’ or ‘occasional’. ‘Everyday’ foods or drinks can be advertised during school-age children’s programming times. ‘Sometimes’ and ‘occasional’ foods will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Visit NZTBC for full guidelines on television advertising to children, the hours of programming they apply to, and how to make a complaint.
