Here's what to do in your edible garden in August.

Plant now

Potatoes, asparagus, carrots, parsnips, beetroot, peas and radishes. Plant citrus trees.

Harvest now

Citrus fruit, salad greens, carrots, silver beet, spinach, rhubarb, broccoli and cauliflower.

Other jobs

  • Get the garden ready for spring planting by adding plenty of compost and lime to soil, if needed.
  • Prune passionfruit vines and feijoa trees.
  • Now's the time to make plans for spring planting. Pore over seed guides and be inspired by what is available.
  • Keep that herb garden going - grow your parsley and coriander near the kitchen so your herby taste sensations are at hand.
HFG TIP
Work manure or compost into any bare areas of the garden to give the soil a rest before spring planting.
