Drink coffee for fibre!
For some of us it may sound too good to be true, but Spanish researchers have found brewed coffees – including espresso, filter and instant coffees – contain significant levels of soluble dietary fibre.
200ml of brewed coffee will give you between 0.9-1.5g fibre, and to make it even better this fibre contains a large amount of antioxidants.
It has been known that coffee beans are rich in dietary fibre but there has been a lack of information on the fibre content of coffee drinks.
While 25g for women and 30g for men is considered an adequate daily fibre intake, our target for good health should be 28g and 38g for women and men respectively.
If you’re already drinking 3-4 cups of coffee a day we would not suggest you drink any more: don’t forget it also has caffeine and you can have too much of a good thing.
