More evidence for salt reduction
Recent data from a long-term intervention study reinforces the benefits of lowering sodium intake.
Over 3,000 people between 30-54 years old were recruited for the research.
Participants who received dietary and behavioural counselling on how to identify and monitor sodium in the diet and selection and the preparation of lower-sodium foods, had reduced their sodium consumption by 25-30% when followed up 10-15 years later.
They also experienced a 25-30% lower risk of cardiovascular disease.
