A study undertaken by researchers in Iran has highlighted a possible link between iron levels and depression.

It is known that nutrition can play an important role in the prevention of depression.

192 medical students, whose average age was 24 years, took part in the study, which evaluated depressed versus healthy students and measured their iron levels.

Results from the study support other studies which indicate a link between the low iron levels and depression.

The researchers recommend clinical trials to further understand this link.

Note: Low iron levels show up in testing before iron deficiency anaemia occurs.
