Prostate cancer linked with selenium?
Research at the University of Auckland has suggested that certain genotypes, and serum selenium levels, interact to affect the risk of prostate cancer.
Preliminary studies have provided ways of detecting people with high cancer risk genotypes, and suggested that some of the potentially negative effects of these genotypes could be reduced by selenium supplementation.
Selenium is low in New Zealand diets, and intake is often less than desirable, even where the diet is otherwise good.
