Green tea gets the green light on health
Lower mortality rates appear to go hand-in-hand with green tea consumption.
More than 40,000 adults aged from 40 to 79 years of age without any history of illness such as coronary heart disease, stroke or cancer, participated in the Ohsaki Study in Japan. They were followed for 11 years for their levels of green tea consumption and death from cardiovascular disease, cancer and all causes.
It was found that those with higher green tea consumption had lower mortality rates due to all causes and cardiovascular disease.
However, the same relationship was not seen with cancer-related deaths in this study.
