Researchers in Tehran recently looked at the differences between people’s reported energy (kilojoule) consumption and their actual consumption.

Over 900 people took part in the study, which found that nearly one third of people under-reported their energy intake.

The women were less honest with 40% under-reporting versus 19% of the men.

Younger women and both men and women with a higher body mass index (BMI) were also more likely to under-report.
