Fact or fiction: Chicken contains hormones

We've all heard this one - so is it true or not?

The use of hormones (including steroids) was banned decades ago in New Zealand. This ban is strictly enforced by the NZ Food Safety Authority.

Advertising on chicken packaging that claims ‘no added hormones’ is stating an industry-wide regulation, not implying that someone else does add hormones.

More information is available on the Poultry Association website.

The bottom line: Myth

You’re not eating hormones when you eat chicken in New Zealand.
