Veges for clear arteries
Eat plenty of vegetables every day and you may keep your heart arteries clear, say US scientists.
Researchers found that laboratory mice given a diet with lashings of green and yellow vegetables like broccoli, carrots, green beans, corn and peas developed less atherosclerosis β a hardening and narrowing of the arteries that can lead to heart disease and stroke β than mice given no vegetables.
The study appears to be the first to examine whether eating vegetables affected the process of atherosclerosis. The researchers said itβs possible that other vegetables would have a similar effect.
