If you’ve noticed that you’ve put on weight this winter, take solace in the knowledge that you are not alone.

Changes in the seasons can cause fat to be deposited in different parts of the body, according to a Canadian study.

Variations in the levels of the hormone testosterone drive changes in both men and women, with the most obvious changes occurring around the waist and hip region.

Women are more curvaceous in winter and spring, while men look more ‘manlier' during spring when waist and hip sizes become more uniform, the researchers said.
