Milk has long been known to be a great source of calcium and other minerals and vitamins.

In pioneering research Australian scientists have now discovered two bioactive proteins in milk that could help in treating gut inflammation and repairing skin respectively. “The research is in its early stage, however the new components have potential as health-enhancing food products, or as biotech products”, said Dr Peter Hobman, general manager of Murray Goulburn Nutritionals.

Possible applications include treatments for inflammatory bowel diseases and damaged tissues.
