British backlash to healthy school meals

A group of mothers have started delivering fast food through a British school’s fence in protest at a campaign for healthier meals.

The parents claim they are taking action because pupils are turning their noses up at what they describe as “overpriced, low-fat rubbish”.

Four parents are using a supermarket trolley to bring daily fish, chips, pies, burgers and fizzy drinks from local takeaways. They have blamed celebrity chef Jamie Oliver for interfering with traditional menus and have been quoted as saying, “I just don’t like him and what he stands for. He is forcing our kids to become more picky about their food.”

Schools have been told to serve healthier menus including at least two servings of fruit and vegetables a day and no more than 2 portions of deep-fried food each week.

A spokesman for Oliver said, “If these mums want to effectively shorten the lives of their kids and others’ kids, then that’s down to them.”
