Spinach compound to suppress appetite
A compound found in green leafy vegetables has potential to boost weight loss and suppress appetite, according to Swedish researchers.
Tykaloids, found in spinach, appear to inhibit the digestion of fat in laboratory animals. The compound may one day be included as a 'functional' ingredient in other foods, to help tackle obesity.
Eating spinach, while healthy, doesn’t appear to be a way to get tykaloids – you’d have to eat about half a kilo a day to get the benefit, according to the researchers.
