Nestlé – the world’s largest food company – has purchased diet company Jenny Craig for $US600 million.

Sounds like a joke, doesn’t it? But it’s true.

The move is part of Nestle’s “continuing commitment to nutrition, health and wellness,” and follows its recent purchase of the Uncle Toby’s cereal and snacks company.

Jenny Craig has more than 3,000 employees and more than 600 centres in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, chairman and CEO of Nestlé, said: “With this strategic acquisition, the Group takes another important step in its transformation process into a nutrition, health and wellness company”.
