Booze to lose?

Having a drink before dinner could help keep the kilos off, according to new research.

Glycaemic Index expert, Professor Jennie Brand-Miller has found that having alcohol before a meal – beer, wine or spirits – reduces the blood sugar response to the next meal. This may explain why alcohol helps fend off heart disease, and Professor Brand-Miller says the alcohol kicks off the metabolism process and keeps blood sugar levels low as the meal is eaten.

As well as fighting fat, the effects of alcohol could be beneficial to those at risk of type 2 diabetes.
